CHG-HGA
Learning Exchange Study
Group
|
| The
CHG Learning Exchange Study Group coordinates with the Handweavers
Guild of America Learning Exchange (HGA-LX). Members learn about
a particular structure or fiber in a short-term study with the
support of friends and also add to their supply of valuable samples. |
|
| What’s
a Learning Exchange? |
| |
The
Handweavers Guild of America’s Learning Exchange is an international
swap. As a participant, you weave samples or spin small skeins
for everyone in your Learning Exchange group, and in return you
will receive samples from the other group members. Your work, as
well as the work of every member in your group, will be evaluated
by an experienced teacher. Every member of the group receives all
of the evaluations. It is a terrific way to learn from your own
work and draw inspiration from the work of others!*

| What
is required? |
| |
First,
you have to join the HGA-LX. Please see the summer issue of Shuttle
Spindle & Dyepot magazine for an excellent article by
our own Elaine Bradley explaining the process and the current projects.
Or log onto the HGA
website for information on current learning exchange topics,
additional information on the process, and required forms. |
| What
does the CHG group do? |
| |
Study
group members will follow the HGA-LX instructions for their weaving
or spinning project. The CHG samples will be identical to those
for the LX group, using the same paperwork, drafts, and notes.
However, you will also weave or spin additional samples to be shared
with the other CHG study group members. |
| When
and where does the group meet? |
| |
At
the beginning of each new exchange, the CHG group will decide meeting
and communication procedures. Possibilities include
• Meeting after the CHG monthly meeting
• E-mail correspondence
• Telephone calls
At the end of the study, members will exchange samples, documentation,
and evaluations in person or by mail. Members are encouraged to display
their study samples at CHG meetings and on the CHG website, if possible. |
| How
do I join? |
| |
First,
join the HGA-LX discussed
above, and then contact Study Group Coordinator, Katie
Aldrich for more information. |
